Due to Covid-19 the Annual Parish Meeting, like so many other events was cancelled this year.

This is the report from the Recreation Committee.

Considerable work has been carried out in the park over the last 9 months to remove a large amount of invasive undergrowth and scrub. Our grounds team has also carried out some tree work that was necessary for safety and much need maintenance this may see rather brutal to the casual observer but is necessary for long term sustainability of the park.

 

There is still a large amount of work require as the park has been rather overlooked by previous councils. The council has tasked a working party of councillors to produce a long-term strategy policy for the Park and that is now complete and awaiting final ratification by the Council.

Our new Grounds Manager Dan Cornish has managed the work well and the “Team “despite one of the wettest and windiest winter in memory, have done a great job. and with a new management plan to be produced with the help of outside local wildlife and bio-diversity organisations and the Environment Agency, we are confident that Radford Park will be a green haven for all residents to enjoy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The work on installing the replacement bridge at the London Road end of the Park was completed last April and re-enabled a circular walk without leaving the Park.

The new play area in the Recreation Ground was installed and is very popular with our younger users, we have recently had a new fence erected on the football side of the play area to mitigate the risk of stray footballs.

The exceptionally wet weather has caused some football games to be cancelled despite the best efforts of the Grounds Team.

 

The Council have recently purchased new litter bins for our open spaces, and they will be installed this spring.

The Fletchers Field open space is another area looked after by the Council and we are looking at possible actions we can take to discourage anti-social behaviour in the area of the raised beds looked after by Liphook in Bloom.

The Millennium Green is looking well and used by many residents, we not only mow this area but carry out tree work as required and look to enhance this prominent green space.
