June 8th
Watercolour Hills and Wildflower Meadows
Elizabeth Baldin
I am predominantly a landscape artist although my work is very varied because I do so much teaching. I paint in watercolours, inks and acrylics in a loose style, aiming to capture the atmosphere of a scene by concentrating on depicting the light and colour. My background is in graphic design, but I have been painting professionally since 2011. I have a studio in Berkshire and run classes and workshops at a lovely light village hall nearby.
For the demo I will be painting ‘Hills and Wildflower Meadows’ in an impressionist style using watercolours. I use a technique where I paint patches of colours next to each other and allow them to blend on the paper – this is a good approach for those who find they sometimes overwork their watercolour paintings and end up with dull muddy colours. It’s quite a direct way of painting rather than overlying thinner washes of colour.
